Ophir Playground with colorful new paint job

The Oroville City Elementary School District is piloting the use of solar-reflective asphalt coating on the Ophir Elementary and Wyandotte Academy Kindergarten playgrounds. The playgrounds are being coated over break and will be ready to go when the students return.

The solar reflective surface creates a much cooler surface than traditional black asphalt. This makes for a safer, cooler play surface and, since the heat is reflected instead of absorbed into the asphalt, it helps reduce the temperature around the asphalt surface. The coating is also in bright, fun colors, which we hope will be perfect for OCESD playgrounds.

If the pilot is successful, OCESD is considering much larger scale use of this surfacing throughout the district.
