OCESD's top concern is school safety at ALL of our school sites.

Part of our DOJ settlement is implementing Restorative Practices (counseling circles, peer-led practices, interventions with counselors, psychologists, and ed therapists, etc.). We recognize the impact the pandemic has had on students' social and emotional well-being and are working with our school staff, community partners, and parents to build a more positive school culture. We find that our restorative practices, at times, require additional consequences, including suspension or expulsion. This year has utilized suspensions more often than in the last three school years.

To address behavior and safety concerns, we are adding additional staff for the upcoming school year that includes a new assistant principal at each middle school and more campus supervisors.

We are also looking for ways to build upon our social and emotional intervention programs (SEL) to improve our school learning community.
